Measuring

Welcome to our easy to follow guide demonstrating how to take accurate measurements of your windows for your exciting, new blinds!

There are two different types of measurements you can take called Recess and Face fit. These instructions will help you determine which is the most suitable and how it is performed.

Pre-Requisites

  • Measuring tape.
  • Step ladder.
  • Pen and paper.
  • Can-do attitude!

Instructions

Safety notice: At Blindsmart, we condone a 100% safety first policy. Please ensure that you are in a comfortable space when performing these steps and that any obstacle hindering your ability to perform these tasks are securely removed.

Recess Fit

A recess fit measurement is essentially the “inside” measurement of your window frame (architrave).

This is most suitable for blockout blinds, sunscreen blinds and plantation shutters.

  1. Place your step ladder in a position that is close to the window you are measuring. Ensure it is stable and secure.
  2. Climb your step ladder a step or 2, until you can comfortably reach the upper-most area within your window frame (architrave).
  3. Using your tape measure, extend the tape horizontally until it reaches the end of the frame most distant from you.
    1. If your ladder is on the right-hand side of the window frame (architrave), extend the tape to the left, horizontally.
    2. Vice versa, if your ladder is on the left-hand side of the window frame (architrave), extend the tape to the right, horizontally.
  4. Capture the total measurement of your window frame (architrave) width in millimetres, ie 181 CM would be 1810 MM.
  5. Carefully climb down your step ladder and repeat the above steps, but this time from the lower section of your window frame (architrave).
  6. Capture the total measurement of your window width in millimetres, ie 181 CM would be 1810 MM.
  7. Compare both width measurements, the one you took from the upper section within the frame and the lower section and use the smallest measurement.
  8. Extend your tape measure vertically, from within the middle, bottom of the window frame (architrave), to the top.
  9. Capture the total measurement of your window height in millimetres, ie 205 CM would be 2050 MM.
  10. Congratulations! You have successfully measured your window like a pro! Use these measurements when shopping in our store.

Face Fit

A face fit measurement is essentially the “outside” measurement of your window frame (architrave).

This is most suitable for dual blinds (blockout & sunscreen bundle), panel blinds, vertical blinds and pelmets.

  1. Place your step ladder in a position that is close to the window you are measuring. Ensure it is stable and secure.
  2. Climb your step ladder a step or 2, until you can comfortably reach the upper-most area of your window frame (architrave) exterior edge.
  3. Using your tape measure, extend the tape horizontally until it reaches the edge of the frame most distant from you.
    1. If your ladder is on the right-hand side of the window frame (architrave), extend the tape to the left, horizontally.
    2. Vice versa, if your ladder is on the left-hand side of the window frame (architrave), extend the tape to the right, horizontally.
  4. Capture the total measurement of your window frame (architrave) exterior width in millimetres, ie 181 CM would be 1810 MM.
  5. Carefully climb down your step ladder and repeat the above steps, but this time from the lower section of your window frame (architrave) exterior.
  6. Capture the total measurement of your window width in millimetres, ie 181 CM would be 1810 MM.
  7. Compare both width measurements; the one you took from the upper & lower sections and use the smallest measurement.
  8. Extend your tape measure vertically, from the middle, bottom of the window frame (architrave) exterior, to the top exterior window frame (architrave).
  9. Capture the total measurement of your window height in millimetres, ie 205 CM would be 2050 MM.
  10. Congratulations! You have successfully measured your window like a pro! Use these measurements when shopping in our store.
